Working closely with the Client, every aspect and detail of their family lifestyle was carefully considered to create a truly one-of-a-kind family home. The result is a characterful five-bedroom residence that blends ‘country house style with a quirky modern twist and drama’.

Drawing on the studio’s flair for ‘spatial expression’ all internal layouts were redesigned to enhance the family home, creating grand, voluminous spaces on the ground floor encompassing a new multifunctional living area, formal dining room and breakfast room.

The kitchen was meticulously designed to be the functional heart of family and social entertaining with a wide selection of appliances carefully selected and beautifully integrated with bespoke joinery. The striking Arabescato marble central island, David Hunt hand-finished ‘Scallop’ chandeliers and choice of bold ‘Etruria’ blue infuses the space with timeless elegance.

Achieving a sense of indoor-outdoor living was an integral part of the brief in creating a new Breakfast Room. The design team worked closely with the studio’s workshop using bespoke joinery to introduce a large skylight in classical style to complement the original architecture as well as large windows and doors, bathing the space in natural light and bringing the outside in. New fireplaces and feature bookcases add a cosiness for cooler seasons of the year.

The principal living space features both formal and informal seating areas, with the furniture selection and layout designed around the Client’s vision for how the spaces will be used socially. Nestled into the bay window, a contemporary curved sofa adds a quirky twist and elongates the feel of the room. All furniture was hand selected to achieve an elegant, timeless aesthetic including the ‘Bobbin’ armchair by David Seyfried featuring beautifully handcrafted arms and legs.

Inspired by grand arched entranceways, the studio’s skilled craftsmen custom-made impressive timber doors connecting the living room, reception hall and dining room. Feature display cabinets continue the timber arch carpentry and one-off pieces, including a pair of 19th century French marble fireplaces in the Louis XV style. Boasting hand carved panelled friezes decorated with shells, acanthus leaves, scrolls and bellflowers, the fireplaces marry elegant minimalism with the building’s traditional architecture.

Reconfiguring the original layout, the team designed ‘His and Hers’ ensuite dressing room and bathrooms for the Master Suite on the first floor. Grand and unique spaces in every sense, the designs include bespoke marble mosaics, impressive bathtubs and marble mouldings crafted around the nuances of the original architecture.

Close collaboration with the Client continued in the specially designed ‘pink’ bedroom for the couple’s four-year-old daughter featuring bespoke shaker-style joinery and custom-made wall-to-wall dressing table and theatrical bed – in elegant and vibrant hues of pink.

Other highlights include a basement that was remodelled to include a new spa area with a steam room, gym and home cinema; multifunctional playroom on the top floor and ‘nanny annexe’.
